Sauf en cas de force majeure, un exploitant agricole doit déclarer son intention de cesser son exploitation au moins 3 ans avant son départ prévu en retraite. Il doit indiquer si elle va devenir disponible, en transmettant à la chambre d'agriculture dont il dépend une déclaration d'intention de cessation d'activité agricole (DICAA) ou présenter un document équivalent dans le cadre d'une reconversion professionnelle.
