Un étranger peut faire l'objet de différentes mesures administratives d'éloignement. Ces mesures sont prises en cas de séjour irrégulier, menace à l'ordre public, etc. Le juge peut aussi décider une interdiction du territoire français. Dans l'attente de son éloignement, l'étranger peut être placé en centre de rétention administrative (CRA) ou être assigné à résidence.
