L'adoption permet de créer un lien de filiation entre l'adoptant et l'adopté.

Une personne seule ou un couple marié, pacsé ou vivant en concubinage peut adopter un mineur ou un majeur, français ou étranger.

L'adoption peut être simple ou plénière. Dans le cas de l'adoption simple, les liens avec la famille d'origine sont maintenus. Dans le cas de l'adoption plénière, il y a une rupture totale des liens de l'adopté avec sa famille d'origine.

C'est l'adoptant qui doit faire la demande de l'adoption.
