Le salarié au pair est embauché par un particulier employeur pour effectuer des tâches à caractère familial ou ménager en contrepartie d'une rémunération en nature (logement, nourriture). Il signe un contrat de travail. Le stagiaire aide familial étranger est un jeune européen venu en France pour étudier. Il signe un accord de placement. Le jeune au pair est non européen. Il vient en France pour approfondir ses compétences linguistiques et sa connaissance de la France. Il signe une convention.
